Voice Recognition Issues
If TalkDoc is having trouble recording your voice or recognizing what you’re saying, try these troubleshooting steps.
Microphone Permissions
TalkDoc requires microphone access to record voice notes. If you haven’t granted permission or accidentally denied it, follow these steps:
Grant Microphone Permission on iPhone/iPad
- Open Settings on your device
- Scroll down and find TalkDoc
- Tap Microphone
- Ensure the toggle is ON (green)
- Return to TalkDoc and try recording again
Grant Microphone Permission on Android
- Open Settings on your device
- Tap Apps or Applications
- Find and select TalkDoc
- Tap Permissions
- Find Microphone and ensure it’s Allowed
- Return to TalkDoc and try recording again
Speech Recognition Failures
If your voice is being recorded but the speech recognition is failing or producing incorrect results:
Background Noise
Excessive background noise is the most common cause of poor speech recognition. To improve accuracy:
- Move to a quieter location if possible
- Speak clearly and at a normal pace
- Avoid recording in noisy environments like traffic, construction sites, or crowded rooms
- If recording in a noisy environment is unavoidable, speak more slowly and deliberately
Audio Not Detected
If you tap the microphone button but no audio is being recorded:
- Check microphone hardware: Ensure the microphone on your device is not physically blocked (e.g., by a protective case)
- Test microphone: Use the Voice Memos app (iPhone) or Recorder app (Android) to verify your microphone works
- Restart TalkDoc: Close the app completely and reopen it
- Restart your device: Power off and power on your phone or tablet
- Reinstall TalkDoc: If the issue persists, delete and reinstall the app from the app store
Poor Recognition Quality
If TalkDoc is recording audio but the transcription is inaccurate:
- Speak clearly: Enunciate your words and avoid mumbling
- Use guided prompts: Follow the guided prompts feature, which provides structure and can improve recognition accuracy
- Record in quiet: Move to a quieter environment if possible
- State key information clearly: Spell out names, dates, and numbers (e.g., “The date is April ninth, twenty twenty-six”)
